According to a source, USPA 24 News has been informed that the alleged assault occurred in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and Smith was instructed to refrain from contacting the victim, whose identity remains undisclosed due to a publication ban.
Trailer Park Boys Inc. has issued a statement to the media revealing that Mike Smith has relinquished his role as managing director. The company is aware of the allegations against Smith, which originated in 2017, and approaches such matters with gravity. They acknowledge the complexity of this situation for all parties involved.
The statement continued, "Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case. At this time, Mike has stepped away from his role at Trailer Park Boys Incorporated and Gary Howsam has assumed managing director responsibilities."
Smith played Bubbles in more than 100 episodes of Trailer Park Boys since its premiere in April 2001, in addition to reprising his role in four feature-length spinoff movies and Netflix’s Trailer Park Boys: The Animated Series. The original Trailer Parker Boys show was itself a spinoff of filmmaker Mike Clattenburg’s short films. In April, it was  reported that Smith and other veteran Trailer Park Boys cast members were reuniting to make season 13 after a 7-year hiatus, despite Smith’s legal trouble.
In April 2016, Smith was arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery and released several hours later after posting $20,000 bail. He was accused of pinning a female friend, Georgia Ling, against a wall during an argument. Smith strenuously denied the allegations, stating: “Georgia is a friend of mine and we had a loud and heated dispute. That is all. At no time did I assault her. I am not guilty of the misdemeanor charged against me.”
Ling, the alleged victim in the case, released a statement in April 2016 to refute allegations of abuse. "Mike and I did indeed engage in a heated argument, but I am dismayed by the manner in which the incident has been reported and handled by law enforcement," she stated. "At no point did I feel threatened or in danger, and had I felt otherwise, I would have contacted the authorities myself, which I did not. The police were summoned by individuals not present in the room who misperceived the argument as something more severe than it actually was. Upon the officers' arrival, I attempted to assure them that the situation was not as grave as perceived, but they proceeded to apprehend Mike."
Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office spokesperson Frank Mateljan confirmed to media outlets in May 2016 that no charges would be pursued “due to a lack of sufficient evidence.”
